Flying Dog/Pratt Street "Bad Birds Good Beer" Orioles Pub Stroll!

Its here!

This Saturday I'll be teaming with Oliver Ales Brewing (Pratt Street Ale House) and Flying Dog's Matt Crow for a "Bad Birds/Good Beer" Orioles Pub Stroll.

The Orioles will be playing the Minnesota Twins at 7:05 PM.

The hook is we'll pregame (~5 PM) at Pratt Street AleHouse a few blocks from Camden Yards, enjoying their great beers (with special pricing!) along with brewmaster Stephen Jones.

And then its off to the game to root on our sad, sad baseball team. Good beer will again be available thanks to Flying Dog's IPA being served at several beer carts around Camden.

Afterward, folks are free to break out and take the party to nearby bars (Pickles perhaps, or over at Federal Hill) or head home or whatever suits them. The outing will be lowkey but built around good people and good beer.

I'll purchase group tickets sometime very soon so please email me or reply to this with a head count to RSVP if you'd like to join us for a fun afternoon and evening. Not sure which seating section but I'll try and keep ticket costs down but some of it will be dictated by overall head count and whats available for group seats in the various sections.

As far as ticket cost reimbursement, I'll take cash or PayPal or even a check if you are so inclined, at the time of the event.

Please join us, it will be a good time!

Channel Crossing Release Party

Pratt Street Ale House's Stephen Jones and Stillwater's Brian Strumke have collaborated to produce something called The Channel Crossing, which will debut at a release party at PSAH on Thursday evening.

Festivities go off at 6 PM and for $5 you will get a commemorative glass plus $3 refills thereafter.

The beer will be on draft and cask in a firkin with French Oak. The three pins will be separately dry hopped with Czech Saaz, Kent Goldings and Bramling Cross hops!

Frisco Grille Oliver Ale Pint Night

Check out Columbia's Frisco Grille today or tonight as they're featuring Oliver Ales/Pratt Street Ale House.

The pint night starts at 7 PM with free glassware with purchase of featured brewery beer, and there might even be an appearance from all around guy guy and awesome Oliver brewer Stephen Jones.

On tap:

Three Lions
Scottish Ale (new recipe!)
Bishop's Indulgence
Peeping Tom Porter (cask!)

That's a terrific lineup.

Pratt Street Ale House Cask Night at Victoria Gastro Pub

Late-breaking here, but Pratt Street Ale House will be providing three casks at Columbia's beautiful Victoria Gastro Pub *tonight* (Monday) (5 PM+):

Oak Aged 3 Lions, Old Habit (brown ale) and Best Bitter.

I assume affable brewmaster Steve Jones will also be on hand. I might even sneak in but heads up regardless, and kudos to Victoria for upping the ante and diving into cask beer the last month or so.

Pratt Street Ale House Bishops Breakfast Oatmeal Stout

Good stuff, not sticky sweet or heavy like a lot of oatmeal stouts can get, wonderful head thanks to the nitro, dark and foreboding but definitely drinkable, classic roast flavor, a touch of bitterness, flavorful, but not over the top.

Pratt Street Ale House

Good stuff going on there since the oddly configured ownership change.

The website is great, although still in progress, and there's a news feed/blog area worth visiting.

Bookmark it, you're missing out on items like Brewer Steve Jones getting tattooed with the "3 Lions Ale" logo on Wednesday August 12th. As a reward there will be a kilderkin (20+ gallons) of Oak Aged 3 Lions (strong brown ale) available on cask, its been aged for over two months "so its going to be full of wonderful oak flavors". Plus, beer specials all night long, giveaways from 8 PM, and general fun times.

I'm not the hugest fan of that 3 Lions, but I had an excellent pour of their Iron Man Pale at Frisco Grille the other day, Steve's an excellent brewer to put it mildly. I still haven't gotten down there yet since the reopen/renovation so that's on the agenda for hopefully very soon.

Also, some interesting trivia questions with fun freebies, get in early when the odds are good and the entire town hasn't discovered the trivia stuff yet.

And as noted earlier here, Jones will be at Frisco Grille on August 15 around noon to demonstrate some all-grain homebrewing magic.

Frisco Grille for August

Scan down to the bottom for the August calendar, expertly designed by owner Adam Carton. Funny picture there of Pratt Street Ale House brewmaster Steve Jones, who will be on hand August 15th around noon to demonstrate some all-grain homebrewing magic.

Wednesday Pint nights:

August 5th - Stoudts
August 12th - Otter Creek
August 19th - Sierra Nevada
August 26th - Dogfish Head

This coming Wednesday they'll also have some selections from Fuller's available.

Real Time

I've been outed, Steve with Oliver Breweries (Pratt Street Ale House)/Wharf Rat was discussing BBG's Frisco Grille related pics as I walked in.

Oh, and Fuller's Mr. Harry. Cheers.

Miscellaneous

--- Its just an idea right now, but potentially a place on Light Street called The Reserve could end up being a beer hangout.
It's going to be a bar/restaurant called The Reserve, and will feature upscale pub food, outdoor seating and occasionally some low-key live music, according to co-owner Andrew Dunlap.

He wants The Reserve to have a good wine list and a great selection of beers on tap.

--- Oliver's/The Wharf Rat on Pratt Street is now the Pratt Street Ale House, having finally re-opened. New website, logo, apparently tons of TV's inside now, but still serving the classic English-style ales (via three handpumps). I tried going in there once before the renovation, but couldn't get through the doors. Didn't help it was a few hours before a Ravens game.

The original Oliver's is still in operation over in Fell's Point.

--- Not sure I've mentioned this before on here and if so, thats pure negligence, but Baltimore Beer Week will debut this year, from October 8th through the 18th, marked by the Brewers Association of Maryland Oktoberfest (1oth) and the Society for Preservation of Beer in Wood (SPBW) Chesapeake Real Ale Festival (17th).

There's a website with not much else up right now where you can email them to get on the mailing list. I tried that when I first saw the website but got a bounceback email. Tried again today, hopefully that's resolved now.

Hopefully establishments in the entire state can get involved, I'd love to be witness to the great wealth of beer resources here putting a great event together. Be sure to notify your favorite beer bars and establishments about this event and nudge them to get involved.

--- DuClaw's "Colossus" will be available in stores and their four locations on April 1st. It is a 21.92% ABV brewed in 2006, aged and allowed to mature, best stored at cool temperatures. They'll put the beasts in 1L swing-top bottles, signed by DuClaw's brewmaster Jim Wagner.
