Flying Dog Woody Creek Wit, Meet Time Magazine

Time sat down with a Beer Sommelier in New York to try some summer beers, and local boys Flying Dog made the cut with their Woody Creek Wit. Local mainstays Southampton, Stoudts and Magic Hat are also mentioned.

Parallel Blog Tasting: Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron

For laughs I traded tasting thoughts over AIM tonight with friend and fellow beer blogger Steve at Summer of Beer. Be sure to visit this link to get the rundown on our real time thoughts on a specially crafted beer from Delaware's Dogfish Head Brewery called Palo Santo Marron. It is a "brown ale" aged on Palo Santo wood.

Also: my review at Beer Advocate, as well as Summer of Beer's.

Not bad, overall. A unique tasting experience both trading thoughts with Steve and enjoying the unusual beer aged in the incredibly dense Palo Santo wood from Paraguay. Check out these YouTube videos for more on this crazy experiment.

Latest Brew Reviews

They can all be found at Beer Advocate.

Sierra Nevada 2008 Summerfest (Czech Pilsener)
Flying Dog Garde Dog (Biere de Garde)
Smuttynose Hanami Ale (fruit beer)
Grozet Gooseberry & Wheat Ale (Scottish Gruit/Ancient Herbed Ale)
Fraoch Heather Ale (Scottish Gruit/Ancient Herbed Ale)
Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale (American Strong Ale)
Einbecker Mai-Ur-Bock (Maibock/Helles Bock)
Clipper City Heavy Seas Red Sky at Night (Saison/Farmhouse Ale)

The Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale got my highest grade, an A-/4.15. I'm still getting used to the "ancient ale" style, so the Fraoch and Grozet were difficult to grade.

Maryland Natives Clipper City and Flying Dog both fared well.

Also, be sure to enjoy Flying Dog's brewer video about what went into making the Garde Dog.

Guinness, Anyone?

Be sure to stop by BBG's ever-expanding links section on the right.

If that somehow bores you, here's some television program making a stop at the Guinness Brewery in Ireland.

Hop, Beer Prices Rising

Every beer nut knows this already.

Consider this an excuse to unload a video on the topic as I learn the ropes with this RedLasso video grabber program. The story is from a San Diego news station and they go to the authorities in the region: Stone Brewing. Good call.

I grabbed a few other beer-related videos tonight and will post them in the future as discretion merits.
